Call 9-1-1 to report a crime, fire, heart attack, or other serious medical condition or any situation requiring IMMEDIATE response of a fire truck, ambulance, or law enforcement vehicle.
When you call 9-1-1, the Dispatcher will need to know:
LOCATION OF THE EMERGENCY
PHONE NUMBER WHERE THE EMERGENCY IS
NATURE OF THE EMERGENCY
For ALL calls it is important to:
STAY CALM
SPEAK CLEARLY
STAY ON THE PHONE UNTIL TOLD TO HANG UP
Please remember, DO NOT call 9-1-1 for road, travel or weather information, directory assistance, auto/home repairs or keys locked in the vehicle when there is no immediate threat to life or property, loud noise complaints, littering, etc.
9-1-1 lines are reserved for emergency calls to report a crime in progress, or a fire, or to request an ambulance. Using 9-1-1 for non-emergency calls may delay the arrival of help for people caught in real emergencies. The non-emergency number for Nottoway County is (434) 645-9044.
Cell Phone users please be aware that cell phones without service CAN still dial 9-1-1. Please remove the batteries from cell phones before giving them to children as a toy.
To contact the Virginia State Police dial #77 on any cell phone to report any highway/interstate emergency.
