law enforcement

The Nottoway Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing dependable, professional law enforcement services to the citizens of our county. Covering 316 square miles and serving a population of approximately 15,632 residents, our agency works around the clock to protect lives, uphold the law, and maintain public safety. Our deputies respond to emergencies, conduct investigations, support community programs, and ensure that Nottoway remains a safe place to live, work, and visit.
Our law enforcement division is composed of 21 full‑time sworn deputies, supported by several part‑time deputies who assist with patrol and courtroom operations. The agency is led by the Sheriff, with command oversight provided by a Captain and Lieutenant.
Uniformed patrol is the backbone of our daily operations. Our 10 road deputies, along with part‑time personnel, provide 24‑hour law enforcement coverage, responding to calls for service, conducting traffic enforcement, performing proactive patrols, and supporting community safety initiatives. Their presence on the road ensures that help is always available when needed and that deputies can respond quickly to emergencies throughout the county.
The Nottoway Sheriff’s Office also manages a wide range of essential services that support both the justice system and the community. These include Civil Paper Service, Criminal Warrant Service, and Courtroom Security, all of which are handled by trained personnel who ensure that legal processes are carried out safely and efficiently. Our Civil Processor and courtroom deputies work closely with the courts to maintain order and support judicial operations.
Our agency is also committed to long‑term community safety through specialized programs and partnerships. The Drug Task Force works to combat illegal narcotics activity, while our School Resource Officers—four deputies and one supervising sergeant—provide daily support, mentorship, and security within Nottoway County Public Schools. These deputies build relationships with students, assist school staff, and help create a safe learning environment.
Beyond traditional law enforcement duties, the Nottoway Sheriff’s Office participates in several community‑focused initiatives. Programs such as Crime Solvers, Project Lifesaver, and Shop With a Cop strengthen our connection with residents and provide vital support to vulnerable populations. These efforts reflect our belief that public safety is not only about enforcement—it is also about engagement, trust, and service.
Through dedicated personnel, a strong leadership structure, and a commitment to both safety and community partnership, the Nottoway Sheriff’s Office continues to serve with integrity and purpose. Our deputies work each day to protect the people of Nottoway County and to uphold the values that define our agency.
